Even though the library will be closed for the summer, we are very excited to have a special author visit from Bozeman local, David Quammen. His topic for discussion is “Charles Darwin: The Secret Life of a Conservative Revolutionary.” He’ll be discussing Darwin the scientist and Darwin the man, drawing of facts and narrative from his recent book, The Reluctant Mr. Darwin (W.W. Norton, 2006). In particular, he’ll explore one of the least known, most quiet, and yet most dramatic periods of his life— the years just after the voyage of the Beagle, when he developed his theory of evolution.
David has been a Montanan for 35 years and a freelance writer for 30. He has published 11 books, including The Song of the Dodo, and hundreds of magazine articles. Presently he holds a position as Contributing Writer for National Geographic and works for other magazines such as Harper’s. He has received the National Magazine Award three times. Quammen holds the Wallace Stegner Chair of Western American Studies at MSU.
