CALLING ALL LIBRARY FRIENDS AND FANS

This is a shout out for help: We'll begin moving in boxes of books from our storage pod on Monday Nov. 12th, at 9:00 a.m.

Want a chance to see the new library ahead of the crowd? Come to the NEW library entrance on the north side of Ophir School at 9am on Monday, November 12th. You can help your library and satisfy your curiosity, at the same time!

Big Sky Community Library will re-open to the public on Tuesday November 27th. Please come to our Grand Opening from 6 to 8 pm. (The doors will open that day at 4 pm.) On that day, library materials will be available for checkout, as usual, and we'll be back in business! In the meantime, please come to our library move-in work party on Monday, November 12th.

Spotlight on... TumbleBooks! (A library resource you can use, even when we're closed!)

If you haven't yet checked out this resource available from our library website, please do! Big Sky Community Library has a subscription to the TumbleBook Library, which allows you to view and listen to books for children, online. There are also games and puzzles for your young ones at this site.

An interesting further option at this site is the ability to expose your child to learning other languages, by having picture books read aloud to him or her in French, Spanish, or Russian! If you're interested, go to the TumbleBook site, and click on the pink button labeled "Language Learning".

You may access our TumbleBooks subscription by going to our website, clicking on e-Resources and then choosing the TumbleBooks link embedded in the page, or you can just click on either one of the TumbleBooks icons IN THIS VERY POST!

Fantastic Construction News!

Initially, the plan for our expansion was to first renovate our old space, and move back into that existing space temporarily in September (with a large portion of the collection remaining in storage), while construction continued in the new section well into winter. Our final move-in to the new space was slated for January. This meant that September-January we'd be putting up with an incomplete collection, and a general mess all around.

We've just received good news of a change in construction plans: Our contractor is focusing on completing the library expansion entirely, by sometime in October. Essentially, in exchange for opening about one month later than anticipated (and one month during which we'd have only been provisionally open), we're gaining two or three months of having construction completed in our new facility! We're thrilled, not only to share our new space with you sooner, but also to now have only have one more move facing us, instead of two.

Construction is well underway!

As you can see in the photo, the library's exterior wall and windows have been removed, and the footprint for the expansion is taking shape. It's almost unbelievable, seeing our formerly crowded library completely gutted like this!

So there's a construction update for the end of July. Be watching here for more information. As soon as we know anything definitive about when, exactly, we'll be able to re-open, we'll let you know!

2007 Summer Reading Program

We're still having a fabulous summer reading program, this summer! Our program will be self-paced and will be able to be completed without having to come to Big Sky Library. You'll probably need to go visit Bozeman's beautiful library at least once or twice this summer, anyway, right? If you haven't yet gone to see it, you really should, soon!
